Dating and Physical Attraction

instant attraction The best online article I've ever read about physical attraction and dating is Attraction-Wise, written by Lanie Delplhin, who owns a Massachusetts dating service.

Looking for the Spark

If you're like me, you tend look for physical attraction and a 'spark' the first time you meet someone…which is not the smart thing to do:

It's not that there's anything wrong with being attracted to someone from the start - quite the contrary. Our point is that attraction isn't always evident at first, and people who are dating for marriage should give it a chance to develop. The expression, "His looks are growing on me," describes a very common phenomenon: As people begin to get to know each other and form an emotional connection, they are able to let go of their first impression and see their dating partner from a different perspective.

The Instant Click

She cautions against looking for the "instant click," which is illusory and has nothing to do with what the person is really like. Unless you're actually bothered by your date's appearance, she advises people to give it 4 or 5 dates - that it can take that long to recognize your attraction to the "whole person."

I could quote from the article endlessly - every sentence struck home with me. Instead, I suggest you go read the article and give it some thought. It may change the way you approach your dates in the future.

it's funny you know, my best relationship to date started out friendly like and evolved over months…

the instant fire has a big ol' tendency to die that's for sure.

@Listening - welcome - we're glad you like the blog!

@badinfluencegirl - that's good to hear. You're right, the big fire dies out and usually leaves nothing but ashes (and my burned butt).
