This post is kind of old so I don't know your final verdict. My verdict is this. If you live in a big metropolitian area meet up will probably be a good way to meet people. If you live like me, in the sticks, you probably are going to need to step up your efforts. I have made female friends but that has been difficult also. My first meet up group was a women's social but outside of the monthly meet up at a restaurant there wasn't much socializing. However, a new group popped up and that was a load of fun for a while but the organizer has decided to be awkard ie. only returning phone calls to the pretty girls! It is interesting how whenever we're out with the group people will notice and ask us what our group is about. They seem fascinated that this group of folks all ages, races & genders have come together just because. As far as dating, nothing. If you're not in the top 5% looks & body wise you won't get much action! Remember a lot of folks on the internet are "shy." Don't count on a guy in meet up to ask you out he's probably too shy to.
